Free TVs given

Meanwhile, at another function held at Natham panchayat on Sunday, Forests Minister N. Selvaraj distributed free colour televisions to a total of 1,196 families.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Selvaraj said that the State Government was fulfilling all the poll promises to the satisfaction of the poor and downtrodden. He said landless agricultural labourers numbering about two lakhs had been given free land pattas.

Five lakh beneficiaries had got house site pattas. Members of farmers’ families were being given special assistances.

Referring to the various developmental works being implemented by the government, Mr. Selvaraj said that the proposal to construct a barrage across the river Cauvery at Mayanur on an outlay of Rs. 165 crore, for which the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone recently, was the first step initiated towards inter-linking of rivers of the State.

The implementation of Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in all the 12,618 village panchayats in the State would bring about a renaissance in the rural lifestyle. Infrastructure such as cement road, playground and libraries were being provided for achieving overall socio-economic development of the rural masses.

Generation of employment by attracting foreign investors to the state was yet another achievement, he added.
