They will be verifying forms till August 28, says Naresh Gupta
MADURAI: Booth level officers (BLO) had been told to be pro-active in carrying out field verification exercise, said Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after addressing officials from the southern districts at the Collectorate, he said that the BLOs had been specifically instructed to be fair in field verification and make it transparent.
The personnel drawn from other departments for election duty, including teachers, had been instructed to check the filled-in forms from public after visiting the houses in person. For confirmation, stickers were being pasted on the doors, he said. “Our target is to achieve 100 per cent and hope to do it with public support.”
The BLOs would be verifying the forms till August 28. Earlier, the last date for filing forms with the designated locations was fixed at August 20 and now it had been extended to August 21, since a section of employees had announced its participation in the general strike. The final voter list was likely to be ready by mid-September. There might not be any more extension of the date for enrolment of names in voter list, he said.
When a scribe pointed out that the name of Madurai MP P. Mohan was missing in the draft voter list, the CEO responded positively and directed the officials concerned to examine the issue and set it right.
Despite limitations such as shortage of staff, he hoped the verification exercise to be carried out in a transparent manner. The erring staff were taken to task and sought explanation for negligence, he said.
