CHENNAI: Officials of the Health Department have said that there has been no delay in the conduct of MBBS counselling this year.

The counselling schedule has been fixed as per the directions issued by the Medical Council of India, according to a release. The first phase of counselling began on July 4 and students were given admission to medical colleges.

The seats rejected by the students, who preferred to take up seats in engineering colleges, fell vacant and counselling to fill them began on August 11. Though the MCI had specified that the second phase of counselling be held between August 25 and 28, the State government had decided to hold it much earlier in the interest of the students, the release said. Even during 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, the second phase of counselling was held only in August and September.
