Over 1,750 cow, bullocks to be vaccinated
It will be held in all private estates
Pollachi: The Forest Department in coordination with the Animal Husbandry Department has commenced a cattle vaccination programme in the fringe areas of the reserve forests at Anaimalai Tiger Reserve in Valaparai.
A release from the Field Director of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, H. Basavaraju, said that about 1,750 cows and bullocks and 80 buffaloes belonging to people living along the forests in Valparai taluk would be vaccinated.
A schedule of programme had been drawn up commencing from August 11 to August 26 and would be conducted in all private estates. The programme was undertaken in order to avoid dreaded cattle diseases such as foot and mouth. The disease could spread to wild herbivore population in the Tiger Reserve area which ultimately could spread to the carnivores such as Tiger, Panther etc.
