Corporation to streamline the functioning of vehicle stands
Use of auxiliary pump sets for pumping operations planned
SALEM: The Salem Corporation will establish an office at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital to issue birth certificates.
Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini and Corporation Commissioner K.S. Palanisamy, addressing media persons here on Tuesday, said that the office would assist people to obtain birth certificates quickly for children born at the hospital.
The office is expected to be opened within a week.
The Corporation would initiate an enquiry on the complaints that the persons who had taken vehicle stands in the city on lease were collecting excess charges from vehicle users.
The civic body fixed Re. 1 as charge for bicycles and Rs. 2 for motorcycles and mopeds. People had complained that Rs. 5 was collected as charge for parking a motorcycle in the stand for a day.The Mayor assured that the civic administration would take immediate action to streamline the functioning of vehicle stands in the city.
Earlier on Monday evening, a team led by Ms. Rekha Priyadarshini visited Stanley reservoir and Raman Intake tower, the water pumping station for Mettur-Nangavalli-Salem (Old) water supply scheme of the Corporation, in Mettur.
The civic body had planned to the use auxiliary pump sets for pumping operations in case the water level in the reservoir fell below 37 ft. The Corporation is getting around 13 million litres of water per day through the scheme.
Auxiliary units are necessary to ensure full capacity operation of the pumping station.. The team comprised Mr. Palanisamy, engineers and senior officials.
