CHENNAI: Emancipation comes through education, and today’s students must work to extend the benefits of education to the less-privileged and oppressed sections, according to Madras High Court Chief Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly.

Addressing the students of Ethiraj College on its Founders Day, Justice Ganguly said education was not merely about applying knowledge for the purpose of achieving high status in life, but rather, it involved being aware of the needs of others.

Pointing to the example of V.L. Ethiraj, a lawyer and philanthropist who founded the college in 1948, Justice Ganguly said his vision to educate women was still relevant.
