Plans to convene frequent meetings with leaders
Will prepare action plan for revitalising the party
CHENNAI: “I shall take everyone along with me in running the party and I will have frequent interactions with them,” says Tamil Nadu Congress president K.V. Thankgabalu.
Asserting that his foremost task is to unite different factions of the party, he says, “There is only one leader in the party -- Sonia Gandhi.”
Mr. Thankgabalu told The Hindu that he was planning to convene frequent meetings with all leaders of the party to ensure better coordination. Based on their suggestions, he would draw up an action plan for revitalising the party.
He would also meet leaders of all frontal organisations and seek their cooperation and suggestions.
Party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan says the first priority should be appointment of office-bearers at all levels. Mr. Thankgabalu should take all leaders along with him and organise public meetings to propagate the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre throughout the State.
People should be made aware that people-oriented programmes such as massive loan waiving scheme for farmers, rural employment guarantee programme and Right to Information Act are being implemented by the Centre.
The TNCC president should have frequent interaction with party leaders.
“Any organisation should have a structure. Unfortunately, the State unit of the party did not have one for the past few years,” says Karti Chidambaram, a member of the All India Congress Committee. There should be a compact team of office-bearers in the State, who should be given an assigned task by the TNCC to fulfil.
He says district units of the party should have physical infrastructure and DCC presidents should be given powers to organise programmes in their jurisdictions, which should be monitored by the TNCC.
State-level speakers should be identified and given enough publicity material. Street-level meetings should be conducted across the State. Only then the party will become vibrant.
Identity cards should be given to all workers.
