Workers from Suththamalli forward a petition to Collector

TIRUNELVELI: A group of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme workers from Suththamalli near here forwarded a petition to District Collector (in-charge) G. Srinivasan on Friday, complaining cut in their “assured daily wage of Rs. 80”. The petitioners alleged that the president of Suththamalli panchayat, besides refusing to give them employment under NREGS, had seized job cards from 200 workers. Moreover, labourers who were employed were given only Rs. 70. However, DRDA sources here said there was no foul-play in the works being executed at Suththamalli as the workers who failed to complete the quantum of work assigned to them were given the wages proportionate to the work they had completed.
