ERODE: In a surprise inspection conducted by the Joint Registrar of Cooperatives R. Indumathi, nine employees of the fair price shops under the public distribution system, who were found involved in malpractices, were placed under suspension.

A release from the Joint Registrar’ office said that in the raids conducted in 36 shops in Dharapuram area, nine employees were suspended.

They found fudging list of beneficiaries and manipulating stocks. The employees were also fined, the release added.

Good cotton inflow

At the weekly market day on Wednesday at the Bhoodapady regulated market, as many as 12,000 bags of cotton were transacted. Sources said that Gingelly was the second most transacted commodity at the market. The value of cotton bags transacted was about Rs. 1 crore.
