NEYVELI: A carnival-like atmosphere enveloped the 11th edition of the Neyveli Book Fair, with book lovers thronging the venue on day seven of the event.

Last year, the fair had notched sales worth about Rs.3 crore. This year too, it is bound to go up significantly, said organisers.

With over a 100 publishers participating, the fair offers book lovers a range of subjects and authors to choose from.

Everyday at the fair, organisers felicitate one leading author and a publisher, and release one book. G. Manimaran, Professor, Department of Geology in V.O.C. College, Tuticorin, who has authored books on natural disasters, has lauded the organisers for their gesture.

He said the Rs.5,000 award would enthuse them to write more books. With awareness of environmental issues increasing, books based on scientific facts were much sought after, he said. Knowledge-oriented cultural shows performed everyday were major crowd pullers.

The camp also offers health and eye care camps and counselling on AIDS. A discount of 10 to 25 per cent is being offered. The fair is open to public till Sunday.
