Slide show of the trip to Goecha La shown
TIRUCHI: The participants of the eighth annual trek of the Science and Adventure Club, Tiruchi, relived their memorable efforts during the slide show presentation organised by the club here on Sunday.
A group of 28 members, belonging to Tiruchi, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and the United States, led by J. Ramanan and Vrinda Ramanan, both trained mountaineers, commenced its trek to reach Goecha La, at the base of Kanchangdzonga (28,210 feet) in Western Sikkim, from Yuksom (5,600 feet) on April 22.
Nineteen among them reached the final glorious spot of Goecha La at 9 a.m on April 29. The slide show presentation by the president of the club J. Ramanan featured beautiful flowers that marked the trail, and the spectacular sights of high mountain peaks – Kanchangdzonga (8,586 metres), Kabru North (7,338 metres), Kabru South (7,317 metres), Rathong (6,679 metres), Kabru Dome (6,600 metres), Pandim (6,691 metres) and Forked Peak (6,108 metres).
Speaking after watching the slide show, Collector T. Soundiah said that such courageous efforts need to be encouraged. He also underlined the important role played by sponsors for the success of any venture. “Government is ready to help the deserving candidates, but support from other quarters is also vital,” he felt.
