The accused demanded Rs. 1 crore in ransom

TIRUCHI: Within a few hours after P. Santhosh Kumar (18) was kidnapped here, a special police team rescued him on Saturday.

Son of financier Parasmal, Santhosh Kumar was riding a two-wheeler from his home on Nadu Kuzili street, when a gang kidnapped him. They tied his hands, legs and mouth and kept him in a house on Poondukara Street, not far away from Nadu Kuzili Street.

The boy has completed Plus-Two and is awaiting admission to an engineering college.

Commissioner of Police Pramod Kumar told reporters that special teams were immediately formed to trace the boy after his father lodged a complaint with the Fort Police at 3.30 p.m. The boy was kidnapped around 10.30 a.m. His father received a call, from Manapparai area on his mobile phone, from one of the accused, who demanded Rs. 1 crore as ransom to set the boy free. The accused had used the boy’s mobile phone.

The caller later contacted the boy’s home, insisting on the ransom.

The Commissioner said all Superintendents of Police of neighbouring districts were put on alert. The police checked vehicles in the border areas and searched the lodges. In the meantime, some suspects were interrogated. This led to spotting the house where the boy was detained.

One of the special teams broke open the lock of the house and rescued the boy at around 6.30 p.m.

Mr. Pramod Kumar said Pradeep Jain and Ankith, both brothers, were two of the four accused, from whose house the boy was rescued. All the accused are absconding.

Further investigation are on.
