For needy students from minority community
Krishnagiri: The Union Government has invited applications from minority community students doing degree or postgraduate technical and professional courses in recognised institutions under the merit-cum-means scholarship scheme in the current academic year.
According to a Collectorate release, the scholarship includes a course fee of Rs. 20,000 a year or the actual fee, whichever is less, and a maintenance allowance of Rs. 1,000 a month for ten months for hosteller and Rs. 500 a month for 10 months for a day scholar.
Continuation of the scholarship in subsequent years will depend on successful completion of the course in the preceding year.
The scheme also provides for 30 per cent reservation for girl students.
It will be open only to students whose parents or guardians have an annual income of not more than Rs. 1 lakh from all sources.
Students who get admission in technical and professional courses without facing any competitive exams will also be eligible for the scholarship. However the students should have secured a minimum of 50 percent of marks at higher secondary and graduation level.
The filled in applications attached with copy of passport size photograph, attested copies of mark and degree certificates, income certificate of parents/guardian should be sent to the District Backward Classes Welfare Officer on or before July 15, 2008.
