At railway school in Golden Rock

TIRUCHI: Marumalarchi Railway Trade Union (MRTU) has urged the Southern Railway to start Tamil medium wing from Standard VI onwards for the students of the Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School at Golden Rock.

In a letter to Chief Personnel Officer, Southern Railway, Chennai, MRTU general secretary C. Kannayan said that the starting of Tamil medium will ensure more admissions to the 85-year-old school.

After the Railway administration had upgraded the school as Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School in 1978, the strength of students went up to 3,000, but some years back it faced a decline.

Appreciating the efforts of the school teachers and the principal to improve the school’s standing, Mr. Kannayan said that there were 28 students, including 18 children of Railway employees, seeking admission to standard VI.

Sanction of Tamil medium would help the school of historic significance to flourish in future, said Mr. Kannayan.
