TIRUCHI: About 15,340 minority students studying in standards I to X from Tamil Nadu would be given the pre-matriculation educational scholarship, offered jointly by the State and Central governments, during 2008-09.
Of this, 7,320 Muslim students, 7980 Christians, 20 Sikhs and 20 Buddhist students would get the scholarship in the State.
Students of standards VI to X are eligible to get the actual admission fee paid or Rs.500 a year and actual educational fee or a maximum of Rs.350 a month under the scholarship programme.
Besides, a maintenance allowance of Rs.100 a month would be given for day scholars studying standards I to X. For hostellers studying standards VI to X, the maintenance grant would be Rs.600 a month for 10 months of a year.
Students, applying for the scheme, should have a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the previous final examination and the annual income of their parents/guardians should be less than Rs.1 lakh. The application form and other details of the scholarship is available at www.minorityaffairs.gov.in
Filled-in applications should be submitted to the headmasters or the principals of the schools and colleges before June 30. The heads of the institutions should verify the same and forward them, class wise, to the District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officer before July 15 in the form of a compact disc, Collector T. Soundiah said in a Press release.
