CHENNAI: Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant on Sunday asserted that his party will not join any alliance for the Lok Sabha polls, saying that he had the courage to contest alone. Addressing a meeting organised to induct hundreds of cadres from various parties into the DMDK, Mr. Vijayakant called upon the people to defeat both the DMK alliance and the AIADMK alliance in the elections.

“If you get a colour television by becoming the member of the DMK, do it by paying Rs 5. But vote for the DMDK,” he said.

Mr. Vijayakant said industrialisation was being done at the cost of agriculture. “Farmers are being forced to sell their lands. It will lead to a massive hike in the prices of food items,” he said.

Stating that he would not have launched a political party if other parties had served the people better, Mr. Vijayakant said no one could prevent him from becoming Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. “No one has the moral right to say that I cannot become the Chief Minister,” he said.
