TIRUCHI: Though cottons are the best way to beat the heat, not many would want to go down to boring cottons with earthen tones. Cottons can turn fashionable too, with a touch of creativity, says Bhuvana Ramanan, a Chennai-based ethnic wear designer.

Revamping the wardrobe doesn’t pinch your wallet much, if you pay details to the cuts that suit you. She elaborated on the cuts and neck-line that could go well with the frame of each person.

“Cottons given an ethnic look that synthetic linen lacks. It complements the accessories that one wears. Any type of cuts could work well on cottons,” she said, addressing members of the Aura Women’s Forum on Wednesday.

She urged the women to experiment on colours but insisted on sticking to the shades that looks good on them.

“You are the best person to decide on the colours and cuts that suit you. Never try to imitate the outfits of celebrities.

Members pelted questions on choosing a fabric and designing it. She offered expert tips on taking measurements for salwars, chudidhars and designer blouses.
