Take steps to control price rise, Centre told
Dharmapuri: The government should make concerted efforts to spread awareness on the negative effects of female infanticide and foeticide in Tamil Nadu, State general secretary of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), U. Vasuki has said.
Speaking at the eighth district conference of the association here on Sunday, Ms. Vasuki said that prevalence of female infanticide and foeticide was high in the State, particularly in the rural pockets of Dharmapuri and Pennagaram. The government should organise a series of campaigns to increase the awareness level of the public. Programmes such as cradle baby scheme and girl child protection scheme should be implemented in a manner that would help control infanticide and foeticide.
The government should initiate stringent action against those who connive with persons indulging in sex selection. It should ensure that all the scan centres were registered. Stern action should be initiated against unregistered centres. Artificial insemination centres should be monitored closely and laws in this regard should be implemented properly.
Ms. Vasuki urged the Central Government to take steps to control price rise. It should also remove 25 types of food grains from online trading. Separate counters should be opened in banks to sanction loans for self-help groups. The government should take steps to close wine shops, which caused inconvenience to the public, she added.
