MADURAI: The Southern Railway’s Madurai division organised a continuing medical education (CME) programme here on Saturday for its senior medical officers from Chennai, Salem, Palghat, Tiruchi, Trivandrum and Madurai divisions.

Issues discussed by the doctors included prevention and management of chronic renal failure, bronchial asthma, recent advances in spinal surgery, oncology and telemedicine, according to a Southern Railway press release. Divisional Railway Manager Hemant Kumar, who presided over the inaugural function, said that focus must be on e-hospital management in order to diagnose the diseases well in advance.

A. Elangovan, Chief Medical Director, Southern Railway, said that a new hospital with modern facilities was coming up in Chennai and efforts were being made to upgrade it as medical college. Also, e-hospital management system was on the cards with voice data facility.

Chief Medical Superintendent G. Loganatham welcomed the participants.
