15 sovereigns, Rs 50,000 stolen

CHENNAI: In a broad daylight offence, burglars broke into a house in the Choolai area and took away jewellery weighing 15 sovereigns and Rs 50,000 in cash on Tuesday.

Police said Chitra, resident of the house on Chinna Kesava Perumal Street, went out to pay school fees for her children.

When she returned home in the afternoon, the front door of the house was found broken open.

She noticed cash and jewellery missing. The Velachery police have registered a case.Further investigation is on.

Chain snatched

An unidentified person on Tuesday night snatched a gold chain weighing eight sovereigns from a woman who was sleeping in her house in Vivek Nagar, Rajamangalam.

Police said Selvi was sleeping near a window kept open. The culprit snatched her chain and escaped under the cover of darkness. The Rajamangalam police are investigating.

Cash stolen

The MGR Nagar police have received a complaint from one Sivasankar that cash totalling Rs.27,000 was removed from his bag, while he was travelling in an MTC bus.

Police said the passenger noticed the cash missing from his bag when the bus was passing through K.K.Nagar. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
