Changes to come into force along Kamarajar Salai on weekends, holidays

MTC bus stops between Kannagi Statue and Labour Statue will be dispensed with from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m

Changes to be made to its bus routes near Anna Square and they would come into effect on Sunday

CHENNAI: Traffic police have decided to clamp restrictions on vehicular movement on Kamarajar Salai on weekends and government holidays, with effect from Saturday, in view of the large number of vehicles and pedestrians coming to the Marina Beach on holidays.

A release issued on Friday said that as per the plan, slow-moving and commercial vehicles would not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and government holidays. Such vehicles would be diverted at the junction of Greenways Road-Thiru-Vi-Ka Bridge and Durgabhai Deshmukh Road junction, RBI Subway (North) and War Memorial.

If the traffic is heavy between Labour Statue and Kannagi Statue on Kamarajar Salai, the vehicular traffic, except Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses, would be diverted at the RBI Subway (North) and War Memorial.

The release said that if the incoming traffic from south is heavy, all vehicles on Kamarajar Salai, except MTC buses, would be diverted at Greenways Road, South Canal Bank Road and Santhome. Those vehicles would take R.K.Mutt Road, TTK Salai, Royapettah Tower Clock, G. P. Road and Anna Salai.

Vehicles coming on Kamarajar Salai would not be allowed to take right turn to Foreshore Road parking lots. Likewise, vehicles coming out of Foreshore Road would not be allowed to take right turn into Kamarajar Salai.

MTC bus stops between Kannagi Statue and Labour Statue would be dispensed with from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m, the release said.

A release from the MTC said that in view of the modifications, changes would be made to its bus routes near Anna Square and they would come into effect on Sunday. On weekends and government holidays, these changes would be in force from 5 p.m.

Buses proceeding towards Broadway would stop at Madras University campus bus stop, instead of Chepauk. The 6D, 6E, D6, PP19, PP19Ext., 21D, 21E, 21EExt., 21G, M21G, 21H, 21K, 21L, 21LExt., 21M, G21, H21, PP21, T21, PP51, H51, H51Ext., 60E, 60G, 521, 421 and 587 route buses, proceeding towards Adyar, would stop at Anna Square bus stop instead of Chepauk Bus Stop.

The 1E, 2A, 2AExt., 13A, M13, 22, 22C, 27B, 27BCut, 27L, M28, M27H, M27E, H27, 29A, 29AExt., 40, 40Ext., 40A, 45B, 45E, A45B and N45B route buses operated from Anna Square via Triplicane-Bharathi Salai, instead of turning from the Kamarajar Salai to Bharathi Salai, opposite Kannagi Statue, would take a right turn opposite the Labour Statue and proceed via Wallajah Road and Victoria Hostel, turn right to Triplicane-Bharathi Salai and then take their usual route.

There is no change in the routes crossing Triplicane-Bharathi Salai to Anna Square in the opposite direction. There is no change in the 12G, 12GExt., 45A, 45AExtn. and 25G routes operating from Anna Square Terminus via Vivekanandar House.
