CHENNAI: Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday indicated that his party was open to an alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the next Lok Sabha elections.

To a query, he replied that his party was always open for “a disciplined alliance on the model of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance).” He declined to elaborate, saying there was no need to explain further. On the Hogenakkal row, Mr. Singh said his party [in the event of capturing power] would resolve it.

Asked for his reaction to the Supreme Court’s oral observations a few weeks ago whether Ramar Sethu could be considered a place of worship, the BJP leader replied that it might not be the place of worship but it was the “place of faith of the Hindu masses.”

Welcoming the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s resolution on the ethnic issue in Sri Lanka, Mr. Singh wanted the Centre to play a role in resolving the problem through negotiations.
