SALEM: The Salem Corporation has started supplying water through tanker lorries to Karungalpatti, which is a large residential colony in the city, from Tuesday, because the area has not received water through the pipelines for the past 10 days.

Residents

Over 100 residents in the area complained to the officials in the Kondalampatti zonal office about the erratic supply of water in their area on Tuesday morning.

The residents threatened to stage agitation if action was not taken in order to rectify the situation and make drinking water available to them.

Pacified

Officials pacified the residents and directed the Corporation personnel to supply water to residents in the area through tankers until the situation improved.

Officials said that tankers would continue to supply water till the water distribution through pipeline was restored.

Residents also complained that the motor pump of a bore well in the colony was not working for the past one week.

“We have informed the Corporation officials.

“But no efforts have been made to sort out the problem”, they alleged.

Meanwhile, residents of Metha Nagar in Tiruvagoundanur also complained that their area was not given water supply for the past two months.

They were forced to fetch water from the wells and pipes located three km away from their area.

Despite repeated representations, officials had not initiated any concrete action to restore the water supply, they said.

Petition

They submitted a petition in this regard to the Corporation Commissioner M. Jayaraman here on Tuesday.
