PT attempts to block trains

Coimbatore: Demonstration by the Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) and an attempt to block trains by the Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) cadre on Thursday marked the agitations seeking to implement the Hogenakkal drinking water supply scheme.

Hundreds of DMDK cadre staged a demonstration in front of the Red Cross Society buildings on Huzur Road.

The demonstrators protested the violence and attacks unleashed on the Tamils in Karnataka.

They also raised slogans condemning the power cuts, inflation and rise in prices of essential commodities and the failure of the State and Central Governments to control the same. PT cadre were prevented by the police at the Coimbatore Railway Junction entrance, when they attempted to enter the station premises on Thursday morning to block the Kurla Express.
