Fruit show will be held on May 24, 25
Udhagamandalam: A meeting of the Nilgiri Flower and Fruit Show Committee held here recently has decided to make the 2008 Annual Floral Carnival here more attractive and meaningful.
According to the Director of Horticulture, B. Chandramohan, focus would be on harnessing the popularity of the event to boost floriculture in the district.
Since the number of farmers taking up floriculture was on the rise, inputs and products associated with the activity would figure prominently at the show, which would be held on May 17 and 18.
It will provide a platform for buyer-grower interactions and the thrust will be on value addition. The focus during the coming season would be on promoting tourism in Kotagiri, he said.
For the first time, a vegetable show would be held at Nehru Park on May 31. To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Fruit Show at Coonoor, it would be organised at the Sim’s Park on May 24 and 25.
Till now it had only been a one-day event. The annual rose show at the Centenary Rose Park here would be held on May 10 and 11. To obtain the views of stake holders feedback forms would be distributed. In the garden competitions organised as part of the carnival about 250 entries are expected.
The possibility of organising a jamboree and a market show would be explored.
