Krishnagiri: The much-awaited Central bus stand in Krishnagiri is scheduled to be fully operational from March 29. The bus terminus built on Chinna Eri in Londonpet at an outlay of Rs. 6.50 crore will help decongest traffic at the existing terminus and ease traffic congestion on Bangalore Bypass Road.

Initially all buses bound to Bangalore, Mysore, Chittoor, Kuppam, Salem and Coimbatore will commence their journey from the new terminus.

The Salem-Bangalore corridor is the most profitable for the corporation and the heaviest in terms of traffic. The terminus has state-of-the art facilities and amenities for passengers. As many as 650 schedules a day are expected to be operated from the terminus, which has about 51 bus departure bays.

Long-route buses will be diverted via Bangalore bypass and some State Transport Corporation buses through Rayakottai Road. A commercial complex and parking facilities for two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been constructed adjacent to the bus stand.

Sources point out that separate depots would be allotted to Karnataka State Transport Corporation and Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation in the bus stand to operate regular and punctual services.

The Krishnagiri Municipality has allocated separate parking bays for autorickshaws and share autos apart from providing waiting hall for passengers and crew, advanced ticket booking centre, telephone booths, multipurpose shops, hotels, cloak room, police control room and pay-and-use toilets. The municipality has sunk four borewells in the area to provide drinking water to hotels and passengers, say sources.
