VIRDHUNAGAR: The State Government has allotted Rs. 2.10 crore for Virudhunagar district towards compensation for those affected by the recent rain.

In a statement, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that as against the normal average rainfall of 30 mm for the month of March, the district had received 250 mm since March 14.

Standing crops, like paddy, cotton, chilli, mango and sunflower, cultivated in 2,411 acres, were damaged.

Over 30 houses were damaged and two persons killed. The Government had allocated Rs. 1.60 crore towards compensation for crops and Rs. 50 lakh for repairing roads.

The compensation would be given to the people after the Government Order was received, specifying crop-wise compensation.
