To be operational between Chennai Central, Gummidipoondi

CHENNAI: A train warning system will become operational between Chennai Central and Gummidipoondi in two months.

The system is now under trial, according to Minister of State for Railways R.Velu. Inaugurating a new building for passenger reservation system at Gummidipoondi near here on Monday, he said main line and suburban services on the section would be fitted with the system. (According to a railway official, in the train warning system, a gadget will be fitted under the engine as well on the track. If a driver violates the signal, the system will give him a warning. If the driver continues to violate, the gadget under the engine will automatically apply the brakes.) Congestion on the Chennai Central–Gudur section would be considerably reduced once the work on laying the third and fourth lines between Ennore and Athipet was completed. Automatic signalling system would also be installed between Gummudipoondi and Gudur within two months. (At present the system is available from Chennai Central to Gummidipoondi.)
