CHENNAI: A 55-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband near Ice House in the early hours on Wednesday.

Police said that Raman (65) and his wife Kasi Ammal (55) were pavement dwellers on Beasant Road, Ice House, and sold tender coconuts in the area.

On Tuesday night, Raman picked a quarrel with his wife and attacked her with the ‘aruval’ with which he used to cut tender coconuts.

In a serious condition, she was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital where she was declared ‘brought dead’.

Based on a complaint from Kasi Ammal’s son Vinayagam, the Ice House police registered a murder case.

Suicide

Apprehending arrest, Raman escaped from the Ice House area.

Later in the evening, the city police received information that he had committed suicide by consuming poison at a village in Villupuram district. Further investigation is on.
