ERODE: The railway line between Sathyamangalam and Chamarajnagar in Karnataka is possible only after the Supreme Court’s Empowered Committee gives clearance, Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu has said.
The Minister’s answer was in response to queries from reporters he met after inspecting the Erode railway station on Saturday.
“The committee is seized of the matter. Further progress is possible only the committee’s green signal,” he said and added that no timetable could be fixed for the project’s implementation.
On the Erode-Palani railway line project, he said the actual work would take more than a year’s time as surveys had to be carried out.
“First there is the reconnaissance survey and then field level survey. There is also the process of land acquisition. It will all take time. You can expect the work to start after a year,” he said. Mr. Velu then recalled announcements made in Railway Budget 2008 for Tamil Nadu.
