Burglars escape with gold jewellery

CHENNAI: Burglars escaped with gold jewellery weighing about 40 sovereigns and other valuables from two locked houses in Thirumullaivoyal.

Police said on Wednesday Venkatesan, a realtor, residing in the TNHB Colony, Ayapakkam, had been to a relative’s house with his wife on Tuesday. When he returned home in the night, he found the doors broken open and 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs.4 lakh in cash missing from the almirah.

In another incident, burglars gained entry into the house of Venkatesan’s neighbour Baskar and decamped with about 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery and some cash. Police said as the inmate had been to work in the Ambattur Industrial Estate, he had locked the house and gone away. On return, Baskar found the locks broken and the jewellery and cash missing. Tirumullaivoil police have registered two cases of burglary.

Only two days ago, burglars had decamped with 80 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver items and Rs.20,000 in cash from the house of a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board engineer on Vaishnavi Nagar 8th street, Thirumullaivoyal.
