TIRUVANNAMALAI: Educational loans to the tune of about Rs.12 crore were disbursed to 1,349 students on behalf of various banks in Tiruvannamalai district during the current financial year, according to Tiruvannamalai Collector Satyabrata Sahoo.
Presiding over a review meeting of banks at the Collectorate here on Thursday, Mr. Sahoo said that the banks had given total loans to the tune of Rs.11,99,46,000. The loans comprised Rs.742.18 lakh to 568 students by Indian Bank, Rs.304 lakh to 408 students by State Bank of India, Rs.87.22 lakh to 282 students by Indian Overseas Bank, Rs.61.75 lakh to 82 students by Central Bank of India, Rs.27.99 lakh to 60 students by Corporation Bank and Rs.3.71 lakh to nine students by the Bank of Baroda.
The Collector lauded the banks for their performance in the area of giving educational loans, considering the priority given by the government to the educational development of the youth in this district where the people were predominantly dependent on agriculture.
