TIRUCHI: The Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, has sanctioned a major project, with a Rs. 1.95-crore funding, to Bharathidasan University for development of cryogen-free low temperature, high-magnetic field and high-pressure facilities for transport and magnetic measurements.
The project has been sanctioned to S. Arumugam, High Pressure Low Temperature Lab, School of Physics, Bharathidasan University. It is for the first time in the university’s 25-year history that a young faculty is receiving such a huge grant for a research project.
The project is aimed at establishing a facility that involves a combination of hydrostatic pressure, uniaxial pressure, low temperature and high magnetic field with various measurement options such as conductivity, magnetization, ac-susceptibility and hall-effect, Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko said.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university would establish a centre for high pressure research with the necessary infrastructure to encourage research.
