TIRUPUR: More than 200 members of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on Sunday organised a novel protest at Avanashi by taking out a protest rally on bullock carts to highlight the pathetic condition of Avanashi-Coimbatore National Highway, which they say suitable only for bullock carts.

Traffic was paralysed for nearly half-an-hour on the busy NH, as around 50 bullock carts rallied on it for 4 km from Kaikattipudur and to Attaiyampalayam. DMDK’s Avanashi union secretary M. Vadivel complained that nearly 15 persons were died in last 2 months on the highway. The protesters said the condition of the highway was really bad particularly at Avanashi, Thekkalur, Karumathampatty and Nalligoundenpudur.
