THENI: Kerala and Tamil Nadu should constitute separate committees comprising all political parties, including the opposition, to discuss the issue in detail to find an amicable solution to the Mullaperiyar dam issue. This problem could be solved only through a meaningful dialogue and not through agitation, said Sarath Kumar, leader of All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi.

He was delivering a special address at the concluding session of an awareness march on the Mullaperiyar issue held at Lower Camp on Sunday.

The solution for this issue should be arrived at without any political colour or an autocratic thought. If necessary, a tribunal could be constituted to decide on the solutions offered by both sides, he suggested.

Hitting hard on the way other political parties in the State handling this issue, Mr. Sarath Kumar said political leaders, including MDMK general secretary Vaiko or PMK leader S. Ramadoss, “were fuelling the issue for political gains and for publicity.”

He strongly criticised blockade of vegetables, milk and other products to Kerala on the Tamil Nadu border as suggested by Mr. Vaiko and said such a strike would not only affect the people in Kerala but also farmers and traders in Tamil Nadu. Both sides would be affected. Moreover, it would worsen the situation.
