SALEM: The productivity improvement and economic growth have to be oriented to facilitate sustainable development, Salem Steel Plant Executive Director B.B. Singh has said. The business success is measured not only in terms of financial bottom line but also in terms of performance in the social and environmental areas, he said after inaugurating the productivity week celebrations organised by the Salem Productivity Council on the theme of Productivity for Sustainable Development here on Tuesday.
Stating that the economic growth leads to depletion of natural resources and deterioration of environment, he called upon the business fraternity to adopt sustainable approach in running the enterprises.
Mr. Singh also appealed to the council to take up initiatives to promote entrepreneurship. Such promotion would result in generation of more income, creation of more employment in addition to providing more economic opportunities. It would thus help fill any existing gaps in the production and supply chain.
He wanted the council to give more thrust for entrepreneurship promotion.
Mr. Singh appreciated the services rendered by the council and the training programmes organised for the skill development of employees.
