In efficient implementation of government-sponsored schemes

TIRUCHI: Collector Ashish Vachhani underlined the importance people’s participation for efficient implementation of government-sponsored schemes.

Speaking at the valediction of the multi-media campaign exhibition organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in the city recently, Mr. Vachhani said the Central and the State Governments evolved and implemented various people-oriented schemes.

The objective of the exhibition was to create awareness among the masses on the guidelines of various schemes, achievements of the government programmes, etc.

In all, 45 government departments and 22 self-help groups had put up their stalls in the ten-day-long show. As part of the campaign, cultural programmes and video shows were conducted in 59 centres.

Five special Varumun Kappom medical camps were held when more than 3,700 persons were screened for various health disorders and 12,000 underwent free eye tests. About 17,000 animals were treated at the veterinary camps.

As many as 87 cultural programmes by school and college students and South Zone Cultural Centre (Thanjavur) were also held.

Mr. Vachhani distributed prizes to the best stalls on the occasion. The stall put up by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation was adjudged the best. The second prize was shared by Tiruchi Corporation and Town Panchayat department. The Cooperatives department claimed the third prize.

The Collector gave away assistances totalling Rs. 28 lakh to 300 beneficiaries belonging to the weaker sections. District Revenue Officer A. Nambirajan, Corporation Commissioner T. T. Balsamy, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, J. Dhanasekaran and Information and Public Relation Officer S. Pandian spoke.
