ERODE: The Erode District Rail Passengers’ Welfare Association has appealed to the Railway Ministry to re-schedule the timings of the Egmore-Mangalore Express train.

After the urgent meeting of the association, its president T. Stalin Gunasekaran told newsmen on Sunday that the Egmore-Mangalore Express reached Erode railway station at 9 a.m.

Every day thousands of passengers, mostly office goers, who are season ticket holders proceeded to Tirupur and Coimbatore travel by the train. If the train timing is re-scheduled and operated from Erode at 8 a.m., they will be benefited and can reach their destinations before 10 a.m. Now, they had to travel by the passenger train which starts from Erode at 6.30 a.m. He said representations had been submitted to the Railway authorities in this regard and soon a memorandum would be given to the Railway Minister.

Similarly for the benefit of employees, a fast passenger service may be introduced between Salem and Coimbatore via Sankari, Erode, and Tirupur in the morning and evening. He wanted the Railway Ministry to introduce a daytime inter-city express from Erode to Chennai. He said the train may start from Erode at 12.30 p.m. and reach Chennai by 7 p.m.

Similarly the same train may be operated from Chennai to Erode in the morning. The meeting wanted the Railway Ministry to operate daily train service to Tirupati from Coimbatore via Erode, Salem.

He said in the 2007-2008 railway budget it was announced that a daily train service would be operated from Coimbatore to Nagercoil but no action was taken.
