Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Jama-ath has convened a meeting on December 20 at Karumbukkadai Azad Nagar Sunnath Sama-ath to decide on the next course of action in the wake of the government’s decision to make registration of marriages compulsory.

A release from General Secretary of Coimbatore District Jama-ath, Haji M.I. Mohammed Ali said that as per the decision, no marriage would be legally valid, if it had not been registered. The Jama-ath had already represented to the Secretary to Government for Registration seeking the existing practice of registering marriages based on the copies of the registration done in the Jama-ath register.

The meeting would be held under the chairmanship of president Haji A.M. Ismath Sahib.
