CHENNAI: Two incidents of burglary and a theft were reported in a span of 10 hours on Wednesday from three different locations in the city.

Gold jewellery and valuables worth a total of Rs.6 lakh were stolen.

Police said K. Devendran, a resident of Thanikachalam Road in T.Nagar, had been to Tirupathi with his family on Tuesday. He lives on the ground floor of an apartment complex. On Wednesday, a few construction workers carrying out repair works on the first floor found the front door of his house broken open.

On receiving information, Mr. Devendran rushed home and found about 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs.30,000 in cash, kept in an almirah, missing.

In another case of burglary, the police said that Sharmila (30) of T.K.C. Garden near Elephant Gate had locked her apartment and gone to a relative’s house on Wednesday. Unidentified miscreants gained entry into her house and decamped with 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and valuables kept in an almirah. She came to know about it only when she returned after a few hours.

In Besant Nagar, residents of a house found valuables in a bag kept near the window of a room missing.

According to police, Keerthi (35) of Ashtalakshmi Garden in a complaint stated that her mother’s valuables, including a pair of expensive diamond ear rings and gold jewellery, were missing from the bag. It is suspected that thieves may have pulled out the bag with the help of a rod and taken away the valuables. Keerthi and her mother were in another room when the incident happened.
