Condemn “anti-worker attitude of the management”

MADURAI: Condemning the “anti-worker attitude of the management,” employees of General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC) staged a demonstration on Thursday. Members of All India General Insurance Employees Association, National General Insurance Employees Confederation, and All India Insurance Employees Association participated.

Addressing the workers Manoharan, secretary, Madurai branch All India General Insurance Employees Association, stated that amidst tough competition from private and transnational players the four government-owned insurance companies had outperformed private entities and were growing at a rapid pace.

The workers allege that even though there is a tremendous growth the management is not recognizing the contribution of the workers, which made it possible and also condemned the downsizing of employees with no intake which actually is affecting the social entity as people from socially marginalized groups and rural areas are denied an employment opportunity. The unions called for a merger of government owned insurance companies into a single corporation.
