NAMAKKAL: The district administration has invited applications to provide scholarships to students belonging to minority communities under a Centre-sponsored post-matric scholarship scheme.
In a statement, Collector G. Sundaramurthi said that students studying from Plus I to PhD in Government recognised schools and higher educational institutions are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
The Union Government would provide scholarships to 2,876 students (1,372 Muslims, 1496 Christians, 4 Sikhs and 4 Buddhists) from Tamil Nadu this fiscal.
Scholarship would be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50 per cent marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination. They should not have received scholarships from the backward class welfare department. Out of the total number of scholarships, 30 per cent would be provided to girl students.
Students from families listed below the poverty line would be given preference. The annual income of the parents/guardian should not exceed Rs.2 lakh. Income certificate obtained in a non-judicial stamp paper should be submitted along with the application. Application forms and more information about the scholarship scheme could be obtained from the website: www.minorityaffairs.
The filled-in application forms along with necessary documents should be submitted to the respective head of the school or higher educational institutions. The institutions should verify the applications and send them to the District Backward and Minorities Welfare Officer within February 10.
