DINDIGUL: With sharp increase in the arrival of pilgrims to Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple in Palani, the district administration has enhanced the facilities and safety measures on prime highways as well as in the temple town.
Mechanised cleaning-cum-sweeping vehicles has been introduced to remove sharp particles, coarse soil and other materials that would hurt the feet of padayatris on the 60-km-long Palani-Dindigul Highway, prime route to Palani for those coming from Karaikudi, Tiruchi, eastern and southern parts of Dindigul district. Seven workers have been engaged to remove excess sand and stones on some stretches, where machines cannot be used.
Already, over 1,000 college students have manually cleaned the three-metre-wide extension of the highway.
Sticks with reflective stickers are being given to padayatris, who choose to walk by night, in order to avoid accidents. Caution signboards have been installed at 50 places on Sempatti-Palani Main Road.
