Udhagamandalam: A fast undertaken since December 4 by members of the Anna Thozilarlal Peravai (ATP) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions of the Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) at Indunagar near here to focus attention on the long-standing demands of the employees took a new turn on Thursday.
In a bid to drive home the gravity of the situation in the ailing company, three members of CITU and three of ATP tonsured their heads in the presence of a large number of aggrieved workers.
Pointing out that their demands included revival of the company and a long overdue pay hike, the employees said that a sum of Rs. 302 crore should be earmarked. Adverting to the nod given recently by the Centre to the infusion of Rs. 30 crore towards working capital, they contended that it was a mere eyewash. The government should take earnest steps to find a lasting solution to the problems confronting the company and its employees.
