Self-employment programme aims at providing livelihood support for women in the camp
KRISHNAGIRI: A self-employment training programme for women was inaugurated at Kelevarapalli Dam refugee camp on Thursday.
Inaugurating the camp, Collector V.K. Shanmugam said that the programme was part of Government’s efforts to provide livelihood support to those living in the refugee camps.
During Food Minister E. V. Velu’s visit to the camps last month, women had demanded self-employment training to improve their standard of living.
The Government sanctioned Rs. 4.20-lakh for the training in response to a proposal sent by the district administration.
The training would be given to 60 women from Kelevarapalli Dam camp, 55 from Pampar camp and 30 from Pochampalli camp. Training on tailoring, fashion designing, manufacturing of rexin and cotton bags and embroidery would be given for 45 days.
Trainees would be given Rs. 25 a day as stipend. Trainees would be given certificates after finishing the course.
Project Officer Saraswathi Ganesan, Mahalir Thittam, P. Rathinavel, Revenue Divisional Officer, R. Muniraj, Tahsildhar among others attended.
