MADURAI: “Give a man a fish; feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; feed him for a lifetime” Lao Tzu
It was an unusual evening, an event which was unique in a sense that unlike the usual placements that we hear and see in educational institutions it was all about giving placement orders to three special children who got placed with jobs.
Wearing the academic garb, S.Rajarajan, B.Dinesh and G.Narmadha who were trained by the Bethshan Special School on Tuesday received the placement orders drawing loud applause from the fellow students and parents. It was indeed a different experience as these special children got an opportunity to taste economic independence through their job placements. The special children were employed by Professional Couriers. “Initially all we do is to make the children independently carry their everyday activity without seeking the help of parents and teachers. Once this is done we give special training to the children by identifying their receptive nature to learn any skill that would help them to gain little money and see if that could be sustained, said Jeyapaul, Coordinator, Bethshan Special School.
Giving away the placement orders V. Pitchai, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, said taking care of special children is more than a thankless job and this effort is a poignant one as it provides them with economic security.
He also praised the job providers.
Proprietors of the courier service, S.Ramesh Babu and M.Suresh were also present during the event.
