“Direct Municipal Commissioner to help in executing development works”
KANCHEEPURAM: Municipal Chairman V. Rajendran has urged Collector Santosh K. Misra to issue a direction to the Municipal Commissioner in order to help in executing various works on schemes and proposals approved by the council for the benefit of people.
In a letter addressed to the Collector, Mr. Rajendran, who was elected as a councillor on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ticket and later, won the indirect elections to the post of chairman, said that several works, including those relating to the underground sewer network expansion project and other works to be executed through MP/MLA local area development funds, State Finance Commission grants etc., had not been taken up for the past six months in Kancheepuram owing to an opposition from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its alliance party councillors.
Mr.Rajendran claimed that the Municipal Commissioner, expressing his inability to help in executing these works, said he could act only after getting a proper clearance from the district administration and from the Commissioner, Municipal Administration, Chennai.
He said that resolutions pertaining to more than 150 works had already been passed by the council at the meetings which were held between August and December, 2007.
The chairman said he had already sought the intervention of the CMA, Chennai, in this regard.
He added that he requested the Collector to issue proper directions to the Municipal Commissioner to avoid returning of funds allotted for infrastructure development works to the Union and State Governments.
