KARUR: Special abishekam and puja were performed to Lord Dakshinamurthy and Lord Anjaneya in various shrines across the district on the occasions of Guru Peyarchi and Hanumath Jayanthi on Wednesday. The day assumed significance in all temples as it marked the commencement of the spiritually important Tamil month Margazhi.

At Sri Pasupatheeswarar Temple in Karur, special abishekams and aradhana were performed to Lord Dakshinamurthy and prasadam distributed to devotees. Hundreds of people participated in the ritual that ended around midnight.

Similar pujas were done at Sri Kalyana Vigirtheeswarar Temple at Venjamangudalur near here, Sri Kadambavaneswarar Temple at Kulithalai, Sri Ratnagireeswarar Temple atop Ayyarmalai, Sri Vanjuleeswarar Temple, Karur, Sri Sakthi Vinayakar Temple at Gandhigram, Karur and all other Siva temples where the navagrahas have been installed.

Likewise thirumanjanam and aradhana was performed for Lord Hanuman at various Perumal temples on account of Hanumath Jayanthi. Special pujas were performed for the idol of Lord Hanuman at the Sri Kalyana Venkatramana Swamy Temple at Thanthonrimalai, Sri Abhaya Pradhana Ranganathar, Sri Anjaneyar Temple at Lalapet, Sri Bhakta Anjaneya Swami shrine at Gandhigram, Sri Neelamega Perumal Temple at Kulithalai and in other Perumal temples.
