COIMBATORE: More than five lakh children in the 0-5 age group in the district will be administered polio drops on January 6.
While the first phase of the pulse polio immunisation drive will be carried out on that day, the second phase will be on February 10.
Deputy Director of Health Services R.T. Porkai Pandian said here on Friday that a target of 5,20,275 children had been fixed by the authorities for this year’s immunisation programme.
More than 5,000 people, including Government staff and volunteers, would be involved in the pulse polio immunisation programme at various places.
Coimbatore Corporation P. Muthuveeran said in a press release that the drops would be given at 196 centres in the city. These include the Corporation’s urban health posts, pharmacies and noon meal centres.
The programme would also be on at private hospitals in the city, the release said.
