She was a third year BA student

VELLORE: The recent arrest of 27-year-old Rafsanjaani, a third year BA English Literature student of Auxilium College here, has surprised police and academic circles.

A Bangladeshi national, she was arrested in Hyderabad when she went there to meet her brother Ridwan Gazi, a prime suspect in the recent blasts, who is absconding.

A police spokesman said a Hyderabad police team was yet to visit Vellore in connection with the incidents.

The district police was yet to receive any instruction from higher-ups on the follow-up measures to be taken in the wake of her arrest.

Links being probed

The district police are making enquiries on their own about the links the girl had in Vellore district and her activities during her stay here. Enquiries revealed that Rafsanjaani left Vellore on August 27 from her rented house at Gopalapuram near Katpadi.

She had earlier stayed in a house at Sathuvachari.

Christian Medical College authorities on Monday denied reports that Rafsanjaani was a student there. Possession of a blood donor card issued by CMC had given the impression that she was a CMC student.

Lavish spending

Police enquiries reveal that Rafsanjaani used to spend lavishly. The police are probing into the nature of her spending. So far, the police have no clue about her involvement in any dubious activities. Her passport is valid till May 28, 2009 and she has permission to stay in India till June 4, 2008.
